The Town of Bluff City board accepted a bid from Cox Disposal for residential refuse service after hearing from staff that the bid locks in the vendor’s proposed rates. Staff said Cox’s rate for the first can will be $23.50 — a $1 increase — and that additional cans will see smaller increases. Board members discussed whether to lock increases for a second year now or decide next year.
Staff explained they sought a two-year bid to reduce annual rebidding; the town will revisit any further adjustments for 2028 at a later meeting. Vice Mayor Adams moved to accept the bid and Alderman Johnson seconded; recorded affirmative votes were called and the board accepted the Cox Disposal bid.
A motion to accept the bid was recorded and carried; staff and members stressed that the bid rate and the town charge are related but handled separately in ordinance language and fee schedules.
