The Town of Bluff City board approved, on first reading, an ordinance adopting the fiscal year 2027 budget and scheduled a second reading and public hearing for August 18 at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Fry read the draft ordinance for the board, and the chair said the document reflected what had been left from the work session.
The ordinance is listed as Ordinance 2026008. Staff told members that MTAS and the state comptroller had reviewed the draft and that a clerical name change would be verified before the document was sent to the newspaper for publication. The chair said, “This is the draft ordinance. Nothing has changed.” Vice Mayor Adams moved to approve the ordinance on first reading and Alderman Johnson seconded; recorded votes were called and the ordinance passed on first reading.
The board clarified that ordinance items are posted to the newspaper and the municipal website after first reading, prior to the second reading and public hearing, so that any edits made after the first reading are captured before public notice. The board confirmed there were no budget increases in the draft presented.
