Council reviews conflicts-of-interest code update required by state law

City clerk Gail Conrad told the council the city must adopt a conflicts-of-interest and financial-disclosure procedure biannually to comply with state statutes. "The state statutes require that any political subdivision with an operating budget of over $1,000,000 must have a provision for disclosing of conflicts of interest and financial disclosure," Conrad said, and explained the citys current ordinance mirrors state statute while adding candidate-related provisions.
The draft ordinance (Bill 26-65) was presented for first reading; staff noted minor changes from two years ago on filing deadlines and explicit inclusion of candidates for office. With no public comment, the council moved and approved the first reading by voice vote; the ordinance will be submitted to the Missouri Ethics Commission as required.
