Council approves FY26 budget adjustments, Treasurer says year-end numbers unchanged

The Deming City Council approved a resolution adopting final budget adjustments for FY26 after Treasurer Liliana Pena explained that some line items were under-spent and others overspent but that the final overall balance remained unchanged. Councilor Julian Monjaras moved the resolution and Mayor Pro Tem Laura Parra seconded.
Councilor Stephen Westenhofer asked whether those adjustments had been known at the May budget meetings. Pena clarified that the adjustments cover the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, and therefore were finalized after those May discussions. A roll-call vote recorded Westenhofer, Monjaras, Mayor Pro Tem Parra and Councilor Catherine Gutierrez voting AYE.
The council treated the adjustments as formal year-end accounting corrections and proceeded to the next agenda item, the FY27 final budget.
