Superintendent: TK enrollment off to a strong start; district pilots block scheduling with CSEA

Superintendent Dr. Rachel Valenzuela told trustees the district opened TK/Kindergarten online enrollment for 2025–26 on Dec. 2 and by Dec. 10 had enough enrolled students to staff four transitional kindergarten classrooms, with a goal of filling eight districtwide. "As of this report on December 10, 2024, we currently have enrolled enough students for 4 classrooms with a goal of filling 8 classrooms district wide," the minutes record.
Dr. Valenzuela also described an ongoing effort with CSEA 570 to explore a "block scheduling" model for classified employees intended to reduce gaps in daily schedules and improve retention. Chief Business Official Renee Loeza was credited for overseeing the project. The minutes note the district hopes to implement the block scheduling system in the 2025–26 school year.
