Parent questions 15,000 sq ft CIC plan, cites smaller Alexandria program
Summary
A parent raised concerns that Arlington’s planned 15,000 sq ft continuum-integrated center (CIC) site may be larger than necessary, citing an Alexandria program that serves 20 members in about 2,500 sq ft and asking the committee for realistic space parameters.

Lucia, a parent attending the DD Committee meeting on Oct. 14, urged the committee to reconsider a county planning figure of 15,000 square feet for the future CIC day program and asked the committee for graduate projections for 2027 and 2028. "I check with them, they have 20 members and they have 2,500 square feet," Lucia said, noting that smaller facilities manage similar participant counts.
Chair Bertram McGahn responded that while location and square footage are important, the committee should prioritize ensuring that services are provided within a constrained budget and abundant available commercial space in the county. The committee agreed to focus on service design and asked staff to provide graduation projections and to continue discussing program size and site options at future meetings.
