Dirt Birds report storm damage, schedule cleanups and ORV safety training

Benzie–Manistee Dirt Birds reported significant storm-related trail damage, volunteer cleanups and that three members completed DNR ORV safety instructor certification; they announced an Adopt-a-Highway cleanup May 9 and a MISORVA ride May 15.
Tim Knoper, reporting for the Benzie–Manistee County Dirt Birds, told the Commission recent ice storms and flooding created significant trail cleanup and maintenance challenges across the region.
"Recent ice storms and flooding created significant trail cleanup and maintenance challenges throughout the region," the minutes state. Knoper said members and volunteers have been actively clearing fallen trees and assessing damaged trail areas. He announced an Adopt-a-Highway cleanup on May 9 and said a spring ORV ride for MISORVA is scheduled for May 15. Knoper also reported three Dirt Birds members completed certification as ORV safety instructors through the DNR.
Commission members briefly discussed the recently adopted ORV ordinance and the importance of public awareness and updated mapping resources to reflect changes in allowable ORV routes.
