Town staff reported a 97% sanitary survey rating, which keeps Bluff City in the state's approved category. Staff said the survey flagged several items that are already being addressed, including replacement pumps, updated emergency operations procedures and improved record keeping after a prior TDEC notice of violation for a water-quality reporting error.
"97 is really good considering 95 puts us into the approved category," staff said in summarizing the result. Staff also said they have purchased a lock for the clear well and will include building maintenance and peeling-paint work in the capital plan.
On the water-treatment plant project, engineering staff said a startup and operations inspection is scheduled for Aug. 10, and that the project is roughly 70% complete. Contractors expect substantial completion shortly after that milestone, pending a few punch-list items and supply-chain delays for some components.
Why it matters: the sanitary-survey rating and the water-plant progress affect regulatory standing, the town's ability to operate the system, and next steps for hiring a certified operator and completing capital upgrades.
