District reports STAR gains, BIST expansion and instructional coaching support for early-career teachers

Elementary Principal Emily Mastin reported that winter STAR benchmarks show growth: ELA students performing at or above the 60th percentile rose from 31.12% (Fall) to 43.83% (Winter), a 12.71-point increase; Math rose from 33.33% to 37.84%, a 4.51-point increase. Mastin also described BIST-related professional learning visits and fundraising progress (nearly $4,000 raised for Project Playground) and said BIST 10-day lessons and PLC work are underway.
District instructional coaches Jackie Colgan and Kaleena Conrad reviewed work during semester one, including classroom observations, co-teaching, push-in support and learning walks. They noted that 10 of 28 JH/HS teachers are in their first years and that coaching focuses on supporting those teachers. Board member Erin Price asked about satisfaction surveys; coaches said informal reflections are used but no formal survey had been distributed.
Junior/Senior High Principal Megan McGann reported 97% of freshmen (63 of 65) and 62 of 63 seniors are on track after semester one. Administration described targeted supports and grade-level meetings to review expectations and academic standing. The board offered praise but did not take formal action.
