Stark County reports instructional gains, ongoing PLC work as enrollment dips

Elementary Principal Emily Mastin told the board enrollment remained steady overall (two students left, one enrolled) and described instructional coaching aligned with PLCs that targeted small-group instruction. The minutes record, "In 1st grade, the percentage of students reading at grade level has increased from 15% to 45%, while 2nd grade has seen an improvement in math performance, with an increase from 42% to 51%."
Acting Jr./Sr. High Principal Thomas Blumer reported junior/senior high enrollment is down 13 students and outlined continued work on PLCs and Cycles of Inquiry; "Teachers have a goal of completing a full Cycle of Inquiry by December 4th," the minutes state. Blumer also noted BIST consultant work and career-exploration activities for eighth graders.
Board members asked follow-up questions about assessment coverage and gathering student feedback on events such as the Homecoming dance; actions included passing suggestions to relevant sponsors and administrators for follow up.
