Stark County honors students and staff for statewide academic and athletic achievements

The Stark County Community Unit School District 100 Board of Education recognized several students and staff during its Oct. 21 meeting for academic excellence, athletic achievements and exemplary service.
President Ann Orwig presented Pride and Excellence recognitions to five high school seniors named to the College Board's 2024 National Recognition: Lauren Best, Maeve Colgan, CJ Richards, Adam West and Garrett Bruecks. According to the minutes, "Academic Success is one of the pillars that we strive for at Stark County and we are excited to recognize these students for their academic achievements," Superintendent Brett Elliott added.
The board also honored sophomore Anna Nagode as a 2024 IHSA golf sectional qualifier and junior high cross-country runners Norah Rorem, Will Denton and Jackson Smith for advancing to the IESA state finals. Coach Gary Frail noted the runners placed among the top 40 at state competition out of over 200 qualifiers.
Unit office staff Mary Streitmatter, Rebecca Lane and Jenny Denton were recognized for their work supporting finances, human resources and payroll; the minutes note the district completed its FY24 audit "without a finding." In addition, the board announced multiple peer-nominated Golden Sledgehammer awards to staff and student groups for embodying district values.
