The Waterloo Local Schools board held a public hearing on the district's proposed two‑year school calendar as required by Ohio Revised Code §3313.48. Superintendent Sean explained the district's goal of adopting two years of calendars to help families and staff plan ahead and said he will recommend formal adoption at the January organizational meeting.
"This is the time to do that," the superintendent said, noting that the draft calendars meet statutory minimum instruction hours (910 hours for grades K–6 and 1,001 hours for grades 7–12) and that some parent‑teacher conference and staff in‑service days may count toward the required totals. He said the 2026–27 calendar is an anomaly that starts late because the county fair falls later in that year.
Board members asked detailed questions about start dates, spring break, and how many instructional days would be added to the end of the year if a full spring week were used. The superintendent and members discussed options — including shifting Christmas break and using conference/comp days — and agreed no immediate board action was required; the formal adoption vote is expected at the January meeting.
