Mayor supports exploring York interpretive sign at Astoria Column ahead of centennial

Mayor Fitzpatrick described a recent lecture on York and showed photographs of existing interpretive panels at the Astoria Column, noting York is not currently mentioned on site panels. He asked whether council would support pursuing an application for an additional panel and possibly expediting SHPO review to allow unveiling in time for a centennial celebration in July.
Staff cautioned that State Historic Preservation Office review and specific wording approvals would be required. "I'm asking if the council would be on board seeing this as a viable and worthwhile project and lend their support asking for the application to be expedited," the mayor said. Councilors indicated support for pursuing the work and staff offered to coordinate next steps with the Friends organizations and SHPO.
