Steger police and deputies receive recognition for DUI and stolen-vehicle work

The Village of Steger presented awards to local police officers on Aug. 19 recognizing work on impaired-driving enforcement and stolen-vehicle recoveries.
Police Chief Greg Smith and Deputy Chief Pete Fajman presented Certificates on behalf of the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists honoring officers for their 2023 efforts. Chief Smith also recognized officers for their roles in July 2024 stolen-vehicle arrests and recoveries, naming Detective Daniel Hoppe, Sergeant Jordan Lane, Officer Mario Velazquez and Officer Jacop Cavazos among those commended. Chief Smith led the presentation and the board recorded no further action beyond formal recognition.
