The board approved a district 'Grow Your Own' pilot program for the 2025–26 school year that would allow support staff with at least two years of employment to maintain their salary and position during student teaching. The program requires a four-year teaching commitment to the district if the participant is hired; if the commitment is not met the salary paid during student teaching would be reimbursed to the district on a prorated basis. The motion by Emily Leezer, seconded by Dane Richards, passed 6-0.
Superintendent Brett Elliott presented the recommendation as a strategy to address teacher shortages by investing in existing staff interested in certification. The board approved the pilot as presented and will monitor the program during its initial year.
