Winhall officials weigh equipment replacements as transfer-station camera fails

At the July 15 Select Board meeting, Scott Bushee, the town's facilities and transfer-station lead, reported recurring problems with the camera near the burn pit: it was repaired and then stopped working again, and Bushee said he will withhold payment to the vendor until the issue is resolved. He also told the Board the town's 1969 John Deere mower is "almost dead" and recommended using the equipment fund to purchase a replacement riding mower.
Bushee said the facility's compactors should remain serviceable for another 10 to 15 years, but mattress handling remains a challenge because mattresses "cannot be compacted." He described plans to store mattress units in metal boxes in the electric barn and said he is exploring private mattress-removal businesses as options. Board members asked about safe storage of car batteries; Bushee said he will obtain a spill kit to meet inspection guidance. Cintas completed fire-extinguisher inspections, and the CO2 meter and building timer were repaired, Bushee reported.
