High school’s 'Cougar Cafe' gives 13 students workplace experience; CBS spot and gift card boost program

A school official updated the board on the High School’s "Cougar Cafe," a student-driven program converted from an old school store to a cafe atmosphere led by two teachers. The program aims to teach students practical work and life skills — including measuring, budgeting and customer interaction — by running coffee and snack service across county schools and at some events.
The program began around Oct. 28. The school representative said the students have sold roughly 306 coffee, tea and hot chocolate orders between the schools, the school board office and the Fall Festival. CBS Channel 6 visited and awarded a $200 gift card to support the program; the segment is scheduled to air Dec. 2 in the evening and Dec. 3 in the early morning.
The board encouraged supervisors to visit the cafe and support student participation; the superintendent noted the program gives students workforce experience and community engagement opportunities.
