Trustee urges board to push El Monte council for anti–data-center and immigration resolutions

"We must oppose data centers in our community," Padilla said during his trustee report, raising concerns that data centers use large amounts of electricity and water and can create other local impacts. He also urged the board to consider sending the city a resolution asking for firmer protections on immigration-enforcement cooperation.
Board members debated process and timing. President Lorenzo Briones and Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said they would check whether the El Monte City Council takes action before the district's next meeting; if the council has not adopted a satisfactory position, trustees agreed to bring draft resolutions back for discussion. Board members asked Trustee Padilla to provide sample language or templates so staff can prepare text for consideration.
Padilla also referenced a recent Pasadena City College parcel purchase near Rosemead, noting a reported $11 million purchase at Bankel Avenue; that claim was raised during his report and flagged for follow-up. The board did not adopt any resolutions at this meeting and made no final policy changes.
