Library and Fairlawn projects seek funds for loading dock, parking and climate control

Library representatives and Director Heskin described a deferred loading-dock repair included in an approximate $80,000 request and asked for funds to mill-and-overlay the north parking lot, rebuild the loading dock and add lighting to improve safety and programming access.
"That is I've included that in the approximate 80,000," Director Heskin said when asked whether the loading dock repair was part of the request. Councilors pressed staff on whether the lot or a roof was the higher priority; staff said the library board maintains a facility committee and that the request addresses a long-deferred safety and access need. The library also requested a permanent part-time seasonal outreach position for events and community outreach currently funded with one-time money.
Fairlawn Historic Mansion proposals included a climate-control and air quality study to identify electrical upgrades and equipment after internal temperatures rose to 89°F during a recent heat-and-smoke event; staff also proposed repaving the lot and installing an EV charger to improve visitor access and potentially offset energy costs.
