Biddeford Council accepts Ward 4 resignation from Dylan Dowdy

The Biddeford City Council voted unanimously Aug. 4 to accept the resignation of Ward 4 Councilor Dylan Dowdy.
Councilors, including Councilor Lessard, praised Dowdy’s preparation and service during a brief tribute before the vote. Dowdy spoke to the chamber, thanked his constituents and said serving on the council had been one of the greatest honors of his life.
Mayor Liam LaFountain read the formal order accepting the resignation under the city charter and said he will begin the chartered appointment process to fill the seat. The mayor said applications for the Ward 4 vacancy will be posted on the city website and that he plans interviews and a nominee at the Sept. 1 council meeting for council confirmation.
The mayor also encouraged Ward 4 residents to consider applying. "There is a requirement by charter to fill that vacancy because it's past six months," he said, noting the appointment route rather than a special election.
The council took the vote immediately after the motion was made and seconded; the motion passed without opposition.
