Special counsel says Butler Snow team qualified to advise on Lumberyard deal

James Artru, the city's special counsel, told the Aspen City Council on July 14 that he is comfortable with the qualifications of Butler Snow attorneys assisting on the Lumberyard master development agreement. "I do very much have that confidence in our team from Butler and Snow," Artru said.
Artru said he and staffers met with the Butler Snow attorneys to review their experience in financing and deal structure for municipal public-private partnerships and that the firm has represented numerous Colorado municipalities on similar matters. Councilors had asked for more information about outside counsel before acting on the amended agreement.
Artru said that discussion (with Butler Snow) and staff review supported moving forward with the amended agreement, while leaving final contract and subcontract reviews to the city's oversight processes.
