Board hears updates on incident-notification protocols, student smartphone policy development and fentanyl-awareness events

Superintendent Kristin Baranski updated the Board on recent committee work and forthcoming outreach. She said the Communication Committee discussed incident-notification and Threat Assessment Protocols and noted occasional delays in notifications because staff often must investigate before communicating to avoid misinformation.
Baranski said the district was "pleasantly surprised by the students’ perspectives of smartphones on campus" after recent forums and that Administration would gather additional stakeholder input to develop draft policy, with students expected to review it at a spring forum. She also announced that Rocky Herron will present the Impacts and Effects of Fentanyl "I Choose" program again; a parent Zoom presentation is scheduled for Jan. 28 at 6:00 p.m., and school assemblies are set for Feb. 3–13.
Board members and committee chairs commented that communication clarity remains a priority and thanked staff and partners for work on emergency protocols and prevention education.
