District to join countywide active-shooter drill on Oct. 31; no students involved

A district presenter briefed the board on a countywide active-shooter drill scheduled for Oct. 31, organized in coordination with Orange County Emergency Management Agency, the sheriff's office and several local police and fire departments. "On October 31, we're going to host it's an it's an active shooter drill. It's in coordination with Orange County, EMA, the sheriff's office, Atwater, Bridal Fire," the presenter said, adding other outside agencies will participate.
The presenter said the exercise is designed to simulate a full response so agencies and schools can align procedures and mutual-aid responses. The presenter emphasized the drill will not involve students on that day and that press releases will notify the community in advance. Board members noted the drill's scale was larger than typical lockdown drills and said public communication should be clear to prevent confusion.
