Waterloo Board approves personnel actions, accepts $4,000 literacy grant and moves to executive session

The Waterloo Board of Education voted to approve several personnel recommendations and accept a $4,000 literacy grant during its regular meeting.
Superintendent June recommended the board accept the resignation of Marcy Hammonds, a cafeteria aide, effective Aug. 27; the board moved, seconded and approved the recommendation. "We wish her all the best, and thank her for her service," June said when presenting the resignation. The board also approved a leave of absence for custodian Juanita Saltzman (effective July 1), noting medical privacy concerns and declining to discuss details in public.
The board approved a number of other personnel actions on motion, including corrections to extended‑day contracts, a slate of substitute employees, stipends for LPDC committee members and resident educator mentors, athletic support and supplemental contracts for coaches and advisors, and a variety of consultant and service agreements. The board approved acceptance of a $4,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to buy new library books for the elementary school and authorized the creation of the associated revenue and expense accounts so the funds can be spent.
Near the end of the public session the board voted to recess into executive session for discussion of employment and compensation matters, with roll call reflecting a majority vote to move into the closed session. Minutes show the meeting recessed after the public actions were completed.
