Chief of Police Travis Peden reported the department was awarded a $5,086.00 grant to purchase two replacement tasers to upgrade equipment.
Peden said officers have received multiple reports of golf carts failing to yield to vehicles, driving on sidewalks and being operated by underage drivers. He emphasized that golf-cart operation is a privilege and said officers will be stricter in enforcing the ordinance; the written ordinance calls for tickets on first and second offenses and revocation of the golf-cart sticker for one year on a third offense. The chief also noted meet-and-greet visits to local pre-K and the Rise program, where students saw the squad truck.
Why it matters: the grant upgrades local public-safety equipment and the stricter enforcement signals increased attention to road and pedestrian safety in harvest season.
