Stonington library director urges residents to get library cards as usage lags

Lisa Grover, director of the Stonington Township Library, told the Board of Trustees on Oct. 7 that the library offers summer reading, family reading night, weekly Coffee & Conversation and twice-weekly beginner crochet classes, and that children’s programming is funded by donations.
Grover said the library recently launched a monthly after-school STEAM program timed to early-release Wednesdays and outlined upcoming fundraisers including an Angel Tree and a silent auction. She told trustees that "less than 20% of the adult population of the Village of Stonington have a library card" and asked the board to help spread the word. Trustee Tara Ramsey and Officer Manager Kari Scott agreed to include library information in the packet provided to new residents and to post information on the village Facebook page and utility bills.
The library provides free card registration to village residents who can show proof of address; nonresidents may purchase annual cards for $25 or $50, which include access to programs. Library board member Sheryl Coady added that staff will deliver books to homebound residents on request.
