The Marbletown Town Board voted to designate the Pacama Vlai area as a Critical Environmental Area on a voice vote after a short discussion and public hearing. Committee member (speaker S3) said the board held an information session at a prior meeting and learned “a lot about the importance of this area, the wildlife, and the plant life that’s up there that’s very special.”
Board members noted the designation is a multi-town effort: Olive and Rochester are expected to consider similar protections where the area crosses municipal boundaries. The board asked the planner (Ted Fink) or staff to file the paperwork following the vote and confirmed that the process had been publicly noticed and posted on the town website. A resident also expressed support during the hearing and the board credited Ariane Giuticelli of the town’s environmental commission for bringing the area forward for protection.
