Commission awards $257,650 parks master-plan contract to Kimley-Horn

The City of South Miami voted to select Kimley-Horn and Associates to develop a 10-month comprehensive parks and recreation master plan at a not-to-exceed cost of $257,650, approving the procurement recommendation after staff and the selection committee favored the firm. Director of Parks and Recreation introduced the project scope and the firm’s project manager, Hadley Peterson, who described a CAPRA-aligned, engagement-heavy approach that includes facility inventories, level-of-service analysis, and a joint-use study focused on Palmer Park during the first four months.

"Our approach is really rooted on the idea that parks are foundational for a high quality of life," said Hadley Peterson, the project manager for Kimley-Horn. The firm will visit each park, evaluate condition and access, run a statistically valid household survey delivered to every South Miami household, and produce park-level CIP recommendations. The commission voted to award the contract (clerk recorded the vote as passing), and staff will finalize contract language and return with a timeline and implementation details.
