The South Miami City Commission on April 15 adopted an add-on resolution urging Miami-Dade County officials to uphold Mayor Daniela Levine Cava's veto of County Resolution R-370-25 and to continue the county's current approach to adding fluoride to the water supply. The motion was made by Vice Mayor Corey and seconded by Commissioner Calle and the clerk recorded the item as passed.
County Commissioner Gallardo, appearing at the meeting, advised against local regulation of water fluoridation and described the issue as outside municipal regulatory authority. "Miami-Dade County water is safe. There's no public hazard," Gallardo said, urging the commission to support the county's position. Gallardo also noted that the EPA reduced recommended fluoride levels nationally about 10 years ago and that related legal and legislative actions are ongoing.
Supporters at the dais framed the vote as a procedural and jurisdictional matter rather than a public-health finding. The commission provided no new technical findings on fluoridation; the action was a formal municipal expression of position to the county board. According to the record, the motion passed on roll call (clerk announced the motion passed).
