City to advance Pedestrian Mall Safety Project after staff spot long-term maintenance issues

"The brick is failing in certain places, and we're constantly replacing that," Parks Director Matt said as he outlined the mall's maintenance constraints and limited brick inventory.
City staff said they are planning the Pedestrian Mall Safety Project with a priority focus at the Wheeler node. The project aims to reduce reliance on the temporary meridian barriers used for safety and will be brought to council in greater detail in the coming months. Staff noted certain small fixes (additional planters, seating) could be pursued while the larger mall plan is advanced.
