Engineer: data will point the city to the right treatment at the right time

David Jones framed the project's goal as producing a "compass" for pavement investment. "So, basically, what we're doing is we're getting a compass that will give us an ability to point ourselves in a direction where it's going to be we're doing the right treatment to the right road at the right time," he said.
He contrasted maintenance and reconstruction: applying maintenance to a road in poor condition may be inappropriate; the van's data will let staff direct maintenance dollars where they achieve the most value.
