MDT sidewalk work prompts architectural survey of Depot; commission to share feasibility files

Staff told the commission that planned pedestrian and ADA improvements on Park Street adjacent to the Depot require MDT to prepare an architectural survey form for the building, and MDT plans to hire a contractor to prepare that survey.
"Because Park Street is MDT's roadway... they are required to do a survey form on the building," Staff member said, noting MDT expects the survey will take six months to a year and that MDT will likely hire an outside consultant because the state liaison did not have time to do it herself. Staff said she received a large feasibility study file on the Depot (which she described as "a ginormous file") and offered to distribute digital links or printed copies to commissioners for review. The commission discussed the Depot's status as a contributing property within the downtown historic commercial district and that it is not individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
