The City Council closed a public hearing and approved the transfer of Hotel Viking's class B/T and related licenses to HTLVI Newport TRS LLC, allowing the hotel to continue operations at 1 Bellevue Avenue under new ownership.
Patrick Coyne, representing the applicant, introduced Derek Shelley, the hotel's general manager. Coyne said the transfer is to a national investor group; Shelley confirmed there were no new uses requested beyond prior approvals. "We do use light amplification on the rooftop bar music for acoustic type of music," Shelley said, adding that amplified rooftop music would be limited and that rooftop amplified music "does not go beyond 8PM." He also told council the hotel had not sought any changes to the minibar-related BH license beyond the transfer.
Councilors asked questions about the two different hotel liquor licenses (BT for hotel-wide service and BH for in-room minibar service) and the corporate chain's identity; staff confirmed the transfer application and public notice requirements had been met. Following a motion, the council voted to close the hearing and approve the transfer and related entertainment licensing.
