Residents press Aspen council on dangerous West End intersections, Cemetery Lane and animal-welfare rules

Several Aspen residents used the public-comment period to press the council for immediate safety fixes and rule changes. You cannot see 1 of the stop signs." She also asked why the city has not moved to Stage 2 fire restrictions and urged the creation of fully fenced dog parks in Ajax Park or Whitaker Park.
Tara Nelson, who lives on Cemetery Lane, described motorists passing stopped school buses and said the street is "pretty dangerous," urging short-term traffic-control fixes before the school year. Francis Stuckens described a near-miss with fast-moving e-bikes in an underpass and suggested additional transit or service options to reduce single-occupant vehicle trips. City staff (Pete) told the council they had received a significant number of resident comments, proposed convening engineering, transportation and police teams, and requested a straw poll to allocate resources for short-term interventions.
Council members said they heard the concerns and will pursue interim and longer-term solutions; staff indicated they would bring back options after a cross-departmental review. The council did not take immediate formal action beyond authorizing staff follow-up.
