Osseo area schools unveils Aspen Ridge Elementary logo and selects bear mascot

District officials and students helped choose a bear standing in front of an aspen tree as the Aspen Ridge Elementary logo. The design and colors came from student and family input; students who helped will name the mascot when school opens.
Osseo Area Schools unveiled the logo and mascot for the new Aspen Ridge Elementary School on Nov. 18, 2025, following a community and student engagement process. Gabe Kaye Villila, executive director of community relations, described two meetings with student groups and a thought-exchange used to gather family and student ideas that informed the final design. "Here is a new logo. It's a bear," Kaye said while showing the new artwork, which features a bear standing in front of an aspen tree.
Kaye said students and families first submitted ideas digitally and then a group of 12 students (two from each grade K–5 at Fernbrook Elementary) reviewed top directions including an owl, a bear and a coyote. The bear and a green palette were chosen to reflect an outdoors, approachable identity; principal Patrick Smith and district leaders thanked students for helping shape the school's identity. Students will later help choose a name for the bear when Aspen Ridge opens.
