The Aspen City Council on July 22 read and approved a proclamation recognizing artist Shepard Fairey and invited the public to a mural unveiling at 5 p.m. on Friday at 435 East Main Street.
Katie Kiernan, founder of 212 Gallery, told the council the artist "has made a lasting impact on Aspen through his art, his generosity, and his collaboration with our community" and invited council members to the unveiling and related events. Mayor Rachel Richards read a proclamation honoring Fairey’s contributions to Aspen’s public art and culture and called for community recognition on July 25, 2025. The council approved the proclamation by unanimous roll call.
The mayor said the city would be represented at the unveiling by Mayor Pro Tem John Doyle. The proclamation text highlighted Fairey’s previous 2018 mural downtown, his philanthropic donations that supported the Aspen Education Foundation, and the artist’s ongoing role in the community. The council recorded no objections and moved on to the remainder of its agenda.
