Matt Weaver used public comment time to press the council to act on a cannabis-retail agenda item he said the council has repeatedly discussed but not scheduled. He argued the issue had been treated as a strategic priority in past years—an RFP was issued and later pulled—and that keeping it off the agenda denies the community and potential business interests an opportunity to move forward.
“Now how can something that is a strategic priority remain not on the agenda?” Weaver asked. He said the council either needs to treat it as a priority and place it on the agenda or remove it from the list entirely rather than keeping it in limbo. Weaver also referenced pending lawsuits and potential state-level opportunities the city has not pursued.
