Buffalo County Extension reports program cuts; FoodWIse ends in county after federal funding loss

The Buffalo County Agriculture and Extension Education Subcommittee received the 2025 annual report on June 1, 2026, from Area Extension Director Dr. Kari Weiss, who said educator vacancies and the loss of federal funding forced program reductions and realignment. Dr. Weiss told the committee the county’s Extension office absorbed the losses “without passing along this loss of funding to county partners,” and that the federally funded FoodWIse program ended in Buffalo County in September 2025.
The minutes state that April Duval, the FoodWIse coordinator, ceased FoodWIse services in the county in September 2025. The committee discussed budget actuals versus budgeted figures for 2025 and noted the figures reflected personnel transitions. The annual report framed the changes as operational realignments rather than service transfers to county government.
