Resident offers donated peace pole and draft 'city of peace' resolution

Susan Ruppel addressed the council during the public-comment period and identified herself as a volunteer activist with the Peaceful Gardens Project. Ruppel said she was prepared to donate the peace pole and had provided a draft resolution in council packets. “Peace strategy number 1 would be we plant a peace pole in the lobby at City Hall,” she said, describing a pole with the phrase “may peace prevail on Earth” in eight languages chosen for their prevalence in West Sacramento. She suggested scheduling the dedication and resolution for International Day of Peace on Sept. 21, 2026, and offered to work with staff as a volunteer to implement the items.
