Summary

Community Development Director Megan Snyder explained the city’s temporary use permit process for pop-up events and said staff reduced costs to support small businesses. She said the city set pop-up fees at $10 per vendor per day with an approximate $19 pass-through cost for the first day (county health permit and other pass-through fees), making a typical initial-day total of about $29 and $10 for each additional day.
Snyder said the city conducts public-safety reviews with public works and the police chief, requires event coordinators to complete background checks and carry insurance, and tries to minimize the per-vendor cost to support vendors that earn limited revenue. The mayor contrasted the city’s $29 example with a $1,500 fee cited in a county meeting and said McFarland’s fee structure aims to enable local pop-ups and fundraisers.
Snyder said the city continues to coordinate with county health for required permits and that overall event costs vary with the number of vendors; council thanked staff for keeping fees low to support small businesses.
