Council approves resolution to create several part-time city positions to reduce overtime costs

City Manager Diego Villamontes presented Resolution 2025-139, asking the council to establish multiple part-time positions — two maintenance workers for public works, one administrative assistant, one police office technician and two part-time police officers — aimed at reducing overtime and creating pipelines to full-time roles.
"The proposed part time positions including, 2 maintenance workers in public works, 1 administrative assistant in administration ... and 1 police office technician and 2 part time police officers," Villamontes said, adding that the estimated cost for the remainder of the fiscal year would not exceed $150,000 and that staff expects to absorb costs within existing departmental budgets by reducing overtime expenditures.
Council members asked no substantive questions. Council member Anita Gonzalez moved to approve the resolution, Council member Gutierrez seconded, and the clerk called roll; the motion passed unanimously (all 'Aye').
