District adds instructional assistants, eyes extra training days for classified staff after safety concerns

Tony (S17), who presented the staffing report, described changes in full-time-equivalent positions across schools and said the district has added several instructional assistants (IAs) to support students with intensive needs. "We've added 3 instructional assistants," Tony said, noting many of those hires addressed special-education support demands.
Tony also described a rise in early-year safety incidents and said the district is considering adding up to two paid days for classified staff at the beginning of the school year for training and collaboration with teachers. He framed the proposal as a preventive measure to reduce accidents and workers’‑comp claims and to strengthen daily safety protocols. The board asked for building-level breakdowns and said they would review staffing and safety metrics as part of the spring budget process and upcoming bargaining discussions.
