Vernon County hears department requests as 2026 budget hearings begin

The Vernon County Commission met Jan. 5, 2026, as department heads presented requests for the 2026 budget. Vernon County Sheriff Mike Buehler reviewed 2025 expenditures and outlined needs for his department; County Collector/Treasurer Brent Banes, Public Administrator Kelsey Westerhold and Prosecuting Attorney Brandi McInroy each met with commissioners to discuss their budget items. Adrienne Lee, County Clerk; Ragan Forkner, Chief Deputy Clerk; and Erik Sommer, County Business Manager, attended several of the departmental hearings.
Commissioners said budget hearings will continue on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, allowing additional departments and follow-up questions. The Jan. 5 discussions focused on identifying department priorities and clarifying 2025 spending ahead of formal budget adoption later in the process.
