South Miami honored with Cure CF kickball tournament trophies; event raised over $82,000

Jerry Sockerman, co‑founder of the Cure Cystic Fibrosis Miami Foundation, presented the City of South Miami with the tournament trophy and a community‑champion award at the commission’s April 1 meeting.
“This year’s tournament was our 12th … and this year we raised over $82,000 thanks to municipalities like yours and the support of those teams, businesses, families, and other sponsors,” Sockerman said. He described the event’s municipal bracket and noted South Miami has taken the trophies multiple times in recent years.
Mayor Javier Fernandez congratulated the organizers and invited the team captain, Alfredo Riverall, and city staff to join the presentation. Sockerman said the tournament supports local families with cystic fibrosis and directs funds to the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; he provided contact information for people and teams interested in participating next season.
The city’s brief recognition included an offer to promote the event on South Miami’s social channels and a photo opportunity at City Hall.
