Dr. Kristin Johnson told the board that Mokena School District 159 received the TREES Elementary Career Development Grant for $1,185, funds the district will use to purchase tablets for a new Project Lead The Way App Creators course in 8th grade. She described upcoming new staff orientation and mentor training tied to curriculum implementation.
Dr. Johnson and staff also highlighted next steps for the district’s Multi‑Tiered System of Supports for social‑emotional learning. At the junior high level, staff identified a need for an SEL universal screener aligned with Illinois SEL Standards and plan to pilot Aperture's DESSA at Mokena Junior High this year. These steps are framed as curriculum and screening pilots with no formal board action required at the meeting.
