Facilitator Amy Cast presented a goal-centered superintendent-evaluation model intended to link strategic plan goals, board annual goals and superintendent operational responsibilities. "The idea is, sometimes there's not a place to put some of the work and then it doesn't get part of the process at all," she said.
Board members responded by stressing the need to make evaluation collaborative and useful, not merely a checkbox. One director said the prior process "is checking a box" and urged a calendarized, artifact-driven approach that defines when data, presentations and midyear check-ins will occur. The group discussed executive-session constraints for certain evaluation steps and agreed to draft a calendar and online folder to collect evidence for the September follow-up.
