Committee member moves to recommend Mixed Use Gateway district to council with conditions

A committee member moved and the commission voted to recommend the proposed Mixed Use Gateway (MUG) district to council, attaching several suggested changes. "I'll make a motion to counsel to recommend approving the mixed use gateway district with the following suggested changes to prohibit pet cremation, consider reducing the maximum allowable height, and consider removing interior amenities as common open space," the commissioner said.
The motion was seconded and passed on an all-call vote. Alex Glassman, council solicitor representing the proposal team, said staff will "take those back to council to discuss them." The vote followed a lengthy presentation of the ordinance's substantive elements — including new multifamily allowances, a 30% minimum nonresidential requirement and height limits of 75 feet (85 feet with bonus) — and a public-comment period in which nearby property owners and commissioners raised questions about buffers, traffic and bonus enforcement.
The commission also approved minutes for the previous meeting and adjourned following the recommendation. The next formal review will be at council where staff will present the draft ordinance and the commission's recommended changes.
