Resident criticizes council communication after driveway-resolution discussion deferred

A Washington Grove resident said the Town Council failed to properly notify neighbors before acting on driveway access affecting 503 McCauley, and asked the Council to apologize and consider compensation.
"I am concerned about how the decision was made about the Challstrom house at 503 McCauley and especially about the fact that it was not properly communicated," wrote Betsy Klinger in a public comment submitted to the Council. Klinger also said the Challstroms were not informed before the resolution restricting use of Sixth Avenue was posted and urged the Council to make amends.
Mayor John Compton told the Council that negotiations with the owners of 503 McCauley are ongoing and asked that discussion of Resolution 2026-05, titled “Driveway Access to McCauley Avenue for Block 18, Lots 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6,” be deferred to the July 13 meeting. Peter Nagrod moved to defer the matter; Barbara Raimondo seconded and the motion carried 6-0. No council action altering access or compensation was taken at this meeting.
The public comment and the deferral leave Klinger’s request for an apology and compensation unresolved. The July 13 meeting is scheduled to include further consideration of Resolution 2026-05.
