HR requests raises, takes on drug-testing and pre-employment screening costs

Jesse Vallez, representing Human Resources, presented the HR budget for FY 2026–27 and requested raises for department employees while reducing travel and office supplies line items. Vallez also asked for increased professional services funding and added new budget lines to cover drug testing and pre-employment screenings that the department says were previously handled by the Sheriff’s budget.
Tracee McKim and Cy Lootens were present for the discussion. Commissioners heard the request; no formal vote or directive was recorded during the session. If approved, the change would shift the county’s screening and testing costs from the Sheriff’s budget to HR’s budget.
