District launches 'Golden Sledgehammer' recognition and expands BIST and PLC efforts

Superintendent Brett Elliott introduced the Golden Sledgehammer, a peer-nominated recognition aligned with district values (PHEARCE and "Protect This House"). Staff honored so far include Diana Gilles, Leslie Rennick, Ashlie Hamilton, Elizabeth Dietz, Courtney Kunkel, Mary Beth Kelly, Beth Chapman and Clint Terwilliger. The district will also recognize staff who received Golden Sledgehammer awards since the prior meeting.
Principals reported that Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and BIST supports are in active use. Elementary Principal Emily Mastin described PLC teams engaged in cycle inquiry, data analysis and targeted interventions; a BIST consultant visited classrooms and is providing coaching. Acting JH/HS Principal Thomas Blumer noted BIST support, a recent FFA conference trip for students, and plans for a peer mentoring/tutoring program pairing high school mentors with junior high mentees.
